The Story began 2022

Cadole Granit Rose is the name of the small vinery and also the name of our company. A Cadole is a small shed in the local Beaujolais dialect and the rose colored granite is the dominating terroir of Chiroubles.  Why Cadole granite rose? Well, to be honest the house is not grand enough to be a Chateau or Domaine… 

The vinery and the small house dating back to the early 20th century had been abandoned for almost 50 years when we bought it.

La Fontenelle is a “lieux-dit” or a named vineyard on the steep hills in Chiroubles. According to old maps, this site has been recognized since at least 1824. Our plot is about 1,7 hectares planted with the Gamay grape 50 to 70 years ago. The vines trained as “gobelet” give very limited yields of concentrated must qualifying as “vieille vignes”, old vines in French.

We are two chemical engineers with a passion for wine and wine tasting that has lasted for more than 40 years. Over the years a desire to see if we could produce wine as well as we could taste it grew strong. After a lot of research we concluded that Beaujolais was the perfect combination of high quality grapes, a multitude of possible winemaking technologies and reasonably affordable vineyards. With one foot in Sweden and one France, we hope to develop a range of wines in the old traditional style of Beaujolais.
